右美托咪定可維持一定程度的鎮靜狀態，有利于降低機體的氧耗率，改善氧合。來自日本牙科大學的科學家采用Foxbox呼吸代謝技術構建了如下圖所示的鎮靜大鼠呼吸與血壓測定裝置，進行右美托咪定對自主呼吸成年大鼠心肺調節影響研究。
